Approximately 20 to 30 percent of both boys and girls are highly sensitive people. Being highly sensitive is not abnormal. You were born with the trait. Over 100 species, including cats, dogs, fish, and birds, can be highly sensitive.
If you are a highly sensitive boy, your mind works in a way that is not like other people who are not as sensitive as you. HSBs are more attuned to slight differences or the small things in life. You see your world more deeply, and it affects you more. HSBs are more influenced by past experiences. For example, if you grew up happy and had a great childhood, you might be a happier person as an adult than a non-sensitive person. If you had a sad childhood, you might be more likely to suffer from mental health ailments. HSBs are inclined to be more bewildered. Because they notice detail more, they can become more stirred when life feels too intense. HSBs tend to use caution before acting; they are sometimes called timid or sensitive. 70% of all HSBs are introverts.
In Western countries, the HSB trait is often appreciated far less than in other countries, and it adversely affects HSBs’ self-image. It is more acceptable for women to react emotionally to situations, than for men and boys.
In China, Highly Sensitive People are highly valued. Children in China are attracted to and prefer sensitive kids as friends, and sensitive friends are considered more loyal than nonsensitive. Typically, sensitive children are popular at school in China. Culture in China and certain other places in the world is very different from the West.
